Forward Regulatory Plan: 2024 to 2026 – Regulations amending the Canadian Transportation Agency Designated Provision Regulations (DPR)
Enabling act(s)
Canada Transportation Act
Description
Parliament passed legislation in June 2023 to modify the Canada Transportation Act (the Act) and introduced new legislative provisions that the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) is required to administer. Pursuant to subsection 177(1) of the Act, in order for the CTA to issue administrative monetary penalties (AMPs) for non-compliance with the Act, the provisions must be designated in the Canadian Transportation Agency Designated Provisions Regulations (DPR). The amendments will designate a number of provisions to this end.
Regulatory cooperation efforts (domestic and international)
This initiative is not part of a regulatory cooperation work plan.
Potential impacts on Canadians, including businesses
The proposed amendments would have positive impacts on Canadians by promoting compliance with the legislation. The ability to issue AMPs in instances of non-compliance provides the Agency with an important tool to effectively perform compliance monitoring and enforcement activities.
Consultations
It is anticipated that the amendments will be published in Part II of the Canada Gazette in 2024.
