Chair
Alain Langlois is a transportation law expert who has spent most of his career providing strategic legal and policy advice to the Government of Canada on matters falling within Parliament’s legislative authority. His work has covered major infrastructure projects such as the Gordie Howe International Bridge Project; safety and security issues including the Lac-Mégantic rail disaster and the COVID-19 pandemic; and economic regulation matters such as the application of, and amendments to, the Canada Transportation Act.
Prior to his appointment as Chair of the Canadian Transportation Agency, Alain was the Assistant Deputy Minister of the Public Safety, Defence and Immigration Portfolio at the Department of Justice Canada. Previously, he served as Deputy Assistant Deputy Minister for the Business and Regulatory Law Portfolio and as Senior General Counsel and Executive Director of Transport and Infrastructure Legal Services. He has also held numerous counsel positions at Transport and Infrastructure Legal Services and the Canadian Transportation Agency Legal Services.
Mr. Langlois brings strong leadership and management experience. He holds an LL.L. from the University of Ottawa and a certificate in Political Science from Université Laval, as well as a certificate for the Program in Public Sector Leadership and Governance from the University of Ottawa.
