APPLICATION by Mandarin Airlines Ltd. requesting an extension of the authority granted by Licence No. 965008 until October 31, 1999.

Mandarin Airlines Ltd. (hereinafter Mandarin) has applied to the Canadian Transportation Agency (hereinafter the Agency) for the authority set out in the title. The application was received on February 4, 1999.
Under Licence No. 965008, Mandarin is authorized to operate a scheduled international service.
Condition No. 3 of Licence No. 965008 states:
The authority granted herein shall terminate on March 27, 1999. Any request for extension of this authority shall be submitted to the Agency for approval by no later than February 26, 1999.
The Agency notes that this licence is issued pursuant to a directive of the Minister of Transport dated March 24, 1997 directing the Agency, pursuant to subparagraph 76(1)(e) of the Canada Transportation Act, S.C., 1996, c. 10 (hereinafter the CTA), to grant all necessary authorization to Mandarin to operate in a manner consistent with the Supplementary Confidential Memorandum on Air Services between the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei and the Civil Aeronautics Administration of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications in Taipei signed on March 19, 1997.
The Agency has reviewed and considered the application and material in support thereof and is satisfied that Mandarin meets the requirements of subsection 69(1) of the CTA.
Accordingly, pursuant to subsection 71(1) of the CTA, the Agency hereby amends Condition No. 3 of Licence No. 965008 to read:
The authority granted herein shall terminate on October 31, 1999.
Any request for extension of this authority shall be submitted to the Agency for approval by no later than September 30, 1999.
