APPLICATION by WesternGeco Canada, pursuant to the Coasting Trade Act, S.C., 1992, c. 31, for a licence to use the "WESTERN PATRIOT" to conduct a seismic survey.

APPLICATION

WesternGeco Canada applied for a licence to use the "WESTERN PATRIOT", a Panamanian seismic research ship, to conduct a 2000 to 2500 square kilometre 3-D seismic survey in the Canadian sector of the Beaufort Sea, departing and returning to Vancouver, British Columbia, commencing on July 1, 2008 and ending on October 31, 2008.

Is there a suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity?

FACTS AND DETERMINATION

Canadian Transportation Agency (the Agency) staff gave notice of the application to the relevant portion of the Canadian marine industry and no Canadian ships were offered. Therefore, the Agency determines that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity.

The Agency is providing this determination to the Minister of Public Safety to consider whether to issue the licence. This Decision is not an authority to operate.
