APPLICATION

Irving Oil Ltd. applied, through its representative, for a licence to use the "COHO", an American tug, to work with the American barge "PENN No. 92" to transport approximately 82,000 barrels of hot asphalt, for one voyage, from Saint John, New Brunswick, to Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia and Stephenville, Botwood and Holyrood, Newfoundland and Labrador, commencing on or about May 26 and ending on or about June 9, 2011.

Is there a suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity?

FACTS AND DETERMINATION

Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) staff gave notice of the application to the Canadian marine industry and no Canadian ships were offered. Therefore, the Agency determines that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity.

The Agency is providing this determination to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to consider whether to issue the licence. This Decision is not an authority to operate.
