APPLICATION

Algoma Tankers Limited applied for a licence to use the "ALGOMA DARTMOUTH", a Canadian non duty paid tanker, to transport petroleum products for bunkering as well as cargo transportation for consumers within the boundaries of Halifax Harbour, commencing on August 1, 2010 and ending on July 31, 2011.

ISSUE

Is there a suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity?

FACTS AND DETERMINATION

Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) staff gave notice of the application to the Canadian marine industry and no Canadian ships were offered. Therefore, the Agency determines that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity.

The Agency is providing this determination to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to consider whether to issue the licence. This Decision is not an authority to operate.
