APPLICATION by Victoria Tall Ships Society, pursuant to the Coasting Trade Act, S.C., 1992, c. 31, for a licence to use the "LADY WASHINGTON" to participate in the American Sail Training Association Tall Ships Challenge 2008.

APPLICATION

Victoria Tall Ships Society applied for a licence to use the "LADY WASHINGTON", an American tall ship, to participate in the American Sail Training Association Tall Ships Challenge 2008. The ship will be displayed at the Victoria Tall Ships Festival in Victoria, British Columbia, and will carry passengers and sail trainees, conduct evening sail voyages and a mock cannon battle, commencing on June 25, 2008 and ending on June 30, 2008.

Is there a suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity?

FACTS AND DETERMINATION

Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) staff gave notice of the application to the Canadian marine industry and no Canadian ships were offered. Therefore, the Agency determines that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity.

The Agency is providing this determination to the Minister of Public Safety to consider whether to issue the licence. This Decision is not an authority to operate.
