APPLICATION
DMM S.A. applied, through its representative, for a licence to use the “ISAAC NEWTON”, a trenching support and cable installation/recovery vessel registered in Luxembourg, to perform the installation and post-lay protection of two electrical cables. The post-lay protection consist of a combination of post-lay cable burial and, if required, post-lay installation of a protective layer. The ship will also be used to perform additional operations such as post-installation surveys and post-lay trenching surveys. The work on submarine power cables will cross the Northumberland Strait and cover a distance of approximately 17 kilometers between Port Borden, Prince Edward Island and Cape Tormentine, New Brunswick. The activity will start on October 13 and end on December 23, 2016.

FACTS AND DETERMINATION
Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) staff gave notice of the application to the Canadian marine industry and no Canadian ships were offered. Therefore, the Agency determines that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity.
The Agency is providing this determination to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to consider whether to issue the licence. This Decision is not an authority to operate.
