APPLICATION by Statoil Canada Ltd., pursuant to the Coasting Trade Act, S.C., 1992, c. 31, for a licence.

APPLICATION

Statoil Canada Ltd. applied, through its representative, for a licence to use the “SKANDI VEGA”, a Norwegian anchor handling tug. The ship will be used to undertake the shipment, presetting and recovery of a complete mooring system for the mobile offshore drilling unit “WEST HERCULES” prior to its arrival at the drilling location in the Flemish Pass, Newfoundland and Labrador, commencing on October 27 and ending on November 27, 2015.

FACTS AND DETERMINATION

Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) staff gave notice of the application to the Canadian marine industry and no Canadian ships were offered. Therefore, the Agency determines that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity.

The Agency is providing this determination to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to consider whether to issue the licence. This Decision is not an authority to operate.
