APPLICATION by Brewaba Wasserbaugesellschaft mbH, pursuant to the Coasting Trade Act, S.C., 1992, c. 31, for a licence.

APPLICATION

Brewaba Wasserbaugesellschaft mbH applied, through its Canadian representative, for a licence to use the "NORDNES", a Dutch vessel equipped with a flexible fall pipe, to load rock in Mulgrave, Nova Scotia and to install them as protection for the subsea flow lines and subsea export gas pipeline of the Deep Panuke offshore gas project. The vessel will also be used to install rock on select locations of the Sable gas subsea pipeline to re-enforce the existing rock protection. The proposed activities will commence on September 15 and end on November 30, 2010.

Is there a suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activities?

FACTS AND DETERMINATION

Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) staff gave notice of the application to the Canadian marine industry and no Canadian ships were offered. Therefore, the Agency determines that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activities.

The Agency is providing this determination to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to consider whether to issue the licence. This Decision is not an authority to operate.
