APPLICATION by Algoma Tankers Limited, pursuant to the Coasting Trade Act, S.C., 1992, c. 31, for a licence to use the "WESERSTERN", Isle of Man registered tanker, to carry approximately 10,500 cubic metres of clean petroleum products from any of the following points: Come by Chance, Newfoundland and Labrador; Halifax or Point Tupper, Nova Scotia; Saint John, New Brunswick; Québec, St. Romuald or Montréal, Quebec; Oakville, Nanticoke or Sarnia, Ontario; and to any of the following points: Come by Chance, Lewisporte, Port aux Basques, Corner Brook or St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador; Halifax, Point Tupper or Sydney, Nova Scotia; Saint John, New Brunswick; Grindstone, Sept-Îles, Baie-Comeau, Québec, St. Romuald or Montréal, Quebec; Oakville, Nanticoke, Sarnia, Sault Ste. Marie or Thunder Bay, Ontario during the period commencing on or about August 21, and ending or about October 5, 2006.

Algoma Tankers Limited has applied to the Minister of National Revenue for a licence to operate the service set out in the title. The matter was referred to the Canadian Transportation Agency on August 18, 2006.
The Canadian Transportation Agency conducted a search of the relevant portion of the marine industry and has determined pursuant to subsection 8(1) of the Coasting Trade Act that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to provide the service or perform the activities described in the application.
This determination will be provided to the Minister of National Revenue for any necessary action as provided for in the Coasting Trade Act.
This Decision does not constitute an authority to commence operations in respect of the service for which application has been made.
