APPLICATION by Irving Oil Limited, pursuant to the Coasting Trade Act, S.C., 1992, c. 31, for a licence to use the "NOR'EASTER" to transport crude oil.

APPLICATION

Irving Oil Limited applied, through its Canadian representative, for a licence to use the "NOR'EASTER", a Marshall Islands tanker, to transport approximately 250,000 barrels of crude oil for multiple voyages between the Canaport monobuoy in Saint John, New Brunswick and Irving Oil Limited's product terminal, commencing on or about September 21, 2008 and ending on or about October 20, 2008.

Is there a suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity?

FACTS AND DETERMINATION

Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) staff gave notice of the application to the Canadian marine industry and no Canadian ships were offered. Therefore, the Agency determines that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity.

The Agency is providing this determination to the Minister of Public Safety to consider whether to issue the licence. This Decision is not an authority to operate.
