One Ocean Expeditions Inc. applied, through its representative, for a licence to use the "AKADEMIK IOFFE", a cruise ship registered in Russia, to offer eight cruises: three from Louisbourg, Nova Scotia to Louisbourg; one from Louisbourg to Iqualuit, Nunavut; one from Iqaluit to Resolute Bay, Nunavut; one from Resolute Bay to Resolute Bay; one from Resolute Bay to Cambridge Bay, Nunavut; and one from Cambridge Bay to Iqaluit. The activity will start on June 27, 2018 and will end on September 25, 2018.

Is there a suitable Canadian ship available to provide the service? Is there an identical or similar adequate marine service available from any person operating one or more Canadian ships?

Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) staff gave notice of the application to the Canadian marine industry and no Canadian ships were offered. Therefore, the Agency determines that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to provide the service, and that there is no identical or similar adequate marine service available from any person operating one or more Canadian ships.

The Agency is providing this Determination to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to consider whether to issue the licence. This Determination is not an authority to operate.
