CPKC Vancouver Logistics Park Consultation

The Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) is providing an opportunity for the public to comment on CPKC’s application to construct a railway logistics park.

Background

The Canada Transportation Act requires Agency approval for the construction of federally-regulated railway lines. The Agency will approve an application to construct a railway line if it determines that the location of the railway line is reasonable, taking into consideration the:

  1. requirements for railway operations and services; and
  2. interests of the localities affected by the railway line.

For more information about the Agency’s process, please refer to: How to Apply for Approval to Construct a Railway Line: A Guide For Federally Regulated Railway Companies.

Project information

CPKC is proposing to build a multi-modal, multi-commodity transload and logistics railway facility next to its Vancouver Intermodal Facility in Pitt Meadows. The facility would be on CPKC-owned land on the south side of the Vancouver Intermodal Facility, east of Kennedy Road. It is intended to serve CPKC's rail customers and growing rail demand through the Vancouver gateway.

The proposed facility has three main components:

  1. An agricultural hub, where Canadian agricultural products would be received by rail and transloaded into shipping containers for export.
  2. An auto lot, where North American-made vehicles would be received by rail for local distributors.
  3. A liquids transload and rail facility for transportation fuels and ethanol, mainly serving Metro Vancouver.
