Long-Haul Interswitching (LHI) - How to Authorize Someone Who is Not a Lawyer to Represent Your Company

Instructions

If you are a shipper applying for LHI and you want someone from outside your company, who is not a lawyer, to represent you in the LHI adjudication, you must formally authorize that person to be your company's representative. You must also send us the authorization document. You can create a document using these instructions:

  1. Give your document this title: Authorization of Representative
  2. Include the following basic information in the document:
    • Your company name
    • The company name of your Local Carrier
    • The name of the person you are authorizing to be your representative, along with their complete address, phone number, and (if possible) e-mail address and fax number
    • If you will be sending a copy of the Authorization of Representative document to anyone other than us, include the name and e-mail address of each of those people (or their fax numbers, if you will be sending to them by fax).
  3. Include the following statements in the document:
    • A statement saying "[Shipper company name] authorizes [representative's name] to act on its behalf in this Long-Haul Interswitching adjudication before the Canadian Transportation Agency."

Note: the person in your company who is authorizing the use of the representative must sign and date this statement

  • A statement from the representative, saying "I agree to act on behalf of [shipper company name] in this Long-Haul Interswitching adjudication before the Canadian Transportation Agency."

Note: the representative must sign and date this statement
