APPLICATION

OSG Overseas Ship Management (Canada) Inc. applied, through its representative, for a licence to use the "BARENTS SEA", a tanker from Singapore, to transport crude oil, in two voyages, from Whiffen Head, Newfoundland and Labrador to Portland, Maine, United States of America via pipeline to Montréal, Quebec, and/or Canaport, Saint John, New Brunswick, and/or Point Tupper, and/or Halifax, Nova Scotia, commencing on or about January 6, and ending on or about January 27, 2010.

ISSUE

Is there a suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity?

FACTS AND DETERMINATION

Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) staff gave notice of the application to the Canadian marine industry and no Canadian ships were offered. Therefore, the Agency determines that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity.

The Agency is providing this determination to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to consider whether to issue the licence. This Decision is not an authority to operate.
