APPLICATION

Canship Ugland Limited applied, through its representative, for a licence to use the “KAREN KNUTSEN”, a tanker registered in the Isle of Man, to transport approximately 950,000 barrels of crude oil, in multiple voyages, from the Hibernia Platform, the SeaRose Floating Production, Storage and Offloading Unit, and the Terra Nova Floating Production, Storage and Offloading Unit to Whiffen Head, Newfoundland and Labrador and/or Canaport, Saint John, New Brunswick, and/or other locations in Atlantic Canada, and/or Portland, Maine, United States of America via pipeline to Montréal, Quebec, commencing on or about March 15 and ending on or about July 13, 2015.

Is there a suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity?

FACTS AND DETERMINATION

Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) staff gave notice of the application to the Canadian marine industry and no Canadian ships were offered. Therefore, the Agency determines that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity.

The Agency is providing this determination to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to consider whether to issue the licence. This Decision is not an authority to operate.
