APPLICATION

Suncor Energy Inc. applied, through its representative, for a licence to use the “MINERVA ASTRA”, a Maltese tanker, to transport approximately 450,000 barrels of crude oil, in one voyage, from Nederland, Texas, United States of America for discharge at Montréal, Quebec and/or Portland, Maine, United States of America via pipeline to Montréal and/or Canaport, in Saint John, New Brunswick and/or Halifax, Nova Scotia and/or Whiffen Head, Newfoundland and Labrador and/or other locations in Atlantic Canada, commencing on or about July 26 and ending on or about August 24, 2015.

Is there a suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity?

FACTS AND DETERMINATION

Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) staff gave notice of the application to the Canadian marine industry and no Canadian ships were offered. Therefore, the Agency determines that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity.

The Agency is providing this determination to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to consider whether to issue the licence. This Decision is not an authority to operate.
