APPLICATION

Suncor Energy Products Partnership applied, through its representative, for a licence to use the “MAINLAND”, a Maltese tanker, to transport approximately 7,500 cubic metres of high temperature black oil product from Sarnia, Ontario to Montréal, Quebec, commencing on or about December 13, 2012 and ending on or about January 3, 2013.

ISSUE

Is there a suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity?

FACTS AND DETERMINATION

Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) staff gave notice of the application to the Canadian marine industry and no Canadian ships were offered. Therefore, the Agency determines that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity.

The Agency is providing this determination to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to consider whether to issue the licence. This Decision is not an authority to operate.
