CTA 101 - Introducing a job aid to enhance the safe handling and stowage of mobility aids during air travel
April 27, 2026 – Gatineau, QC - The Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) introduces a job aid tool designed to support airlines and ground handlers in the safe and secure handling of mobility aids during air travel.
Mobility aids are essential extensions of personal autonomy. Damage or mishandling during air travel can have serious consequences for passengers. This tool is a proactive step toward enhancing the travel experience for persons living with a disability. Key features of the job-aid tool include:
- Visual indicators and instructions on how to move and secure mobility aids; and
- Best practices for lifting, securing, and stowing various types of mobility aids.
The CTA worked collaboratively with Transport Canada, persons living with a disability, and various stakeholders in the air travel industry to gain a deeper understanding of the complexities and engaged the National Research Council of Canada and the Algonquin College to develop this new system.
The CTA encourages airlines and airports to integrate this tool into their training and operational procedures to promote safer and more accessible air travel.
