Notice of Violation – WestJet penalized for contraventions of the Accessible Transportation for Persons with Disabilities Regulations

The Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) has issued administrative monetary penalties of $90,000 against WestJet. These penalties are for two violations of the Accessible Transportation for Persons with Disabilities Regulations (ATPDR) related to providing services to persons with a disability.
On September 28, 2024, at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), WestJet failed to assist a passenger with a disability by not returning the mobility aid to the person on arrival at the destination without delay. WestJet also failed to provide a temporary replacement mobility aid.
These contraventions relate to subsections 41(1)(c) and 61(a) of the ATPDR.
WestJet has 30 days to request a review before the Transportation Appeal Tribunal of Canada.
