Interline Baggage Rules for Canada

Background

In 2013, the Agency held industry and public consultations in order to establish a clear and transparent approach to the application of baggage rules for travel arrangements involving multiple air carriers for transportation to and from Canada.

A new approach was needed to reduce confusion for passengers' ever-changing baggage rules and charges during their travel on itineraries involving multiple air carriers.

Application

The new approach applies to itineraries involving multiple air carriers to or from Canada, purchased on a single ticket.

All carriers are expected to comply with the new approach for tickets issued on or after April 1, 2015.

When an itinerary involving multiple air carriers is purchased on a single ticket for travel to and from Canada, a single set of baggage rules should apply throughout the entire itinerary and be disclosed on the itinerary receipt or e-ticket.
